Advanced user skills

General software

The following list of abilities should be obtained by you during the SysAdmin practicals:
  1. Install software and software packages from the network on the local machine
  2. Uninstall software and software packages from the local machine
  3. Examine the installed/available software on a particular machine
  4. Examine what any particular software application is good for
  5. Creating a zip archive of some files using WinZip
  6. Producing executable Archives using WinZip
  7. Determine relative file name, absolute file name, and MS-DOS file name of any file
  8. Search for files using wildcards

General hardware

The following list of abilities should be obtained by you during the SysAdmin practicals:
  1. Determine what devices are built in any particular machine, and how the devices are "called"
  2. Determine whether or not a certain application takes a lot of CPU time and/or memory
  3. Use a calculator to convert hexadecimal numbers to decimal and vice versa
  4. Discover what network card is installed in the computer, and what kind of cabling is used

Basic networking tasks

The following list of abilities should be obtained by you during the SysAdmin practicals:
  1. Determine what devices are available in a particular network
  2. Share and map network drives using the windows GUI
  3. Map network drives using the command line tool "net use"

Administration tools

The following list of abilities should be obtained by you during the SysAdmin practicals:
  1. Become familiar with useful administration applications
  2. Create, delete and change user accounts on the local machine
